This is the prop people ask about the most. It's
also the prop which gets the biggest reponse
when the collection is on show. Vera is a
modified version of one of the custom guns
made for the DeNiro/Murphy film,'Showtime'.
The base gun is a Saiga-12 Semi-Auto shotgun.
The only time we see Vera actually fire is in
'Our Mrs Reynolds'. During research for the
'Firefly Official Companion', I spoke to the
armourer on Firefly and he said the blanks
were impossible to use indoors, way too loud
and too much concussion.
But Vera needed to fire to knock out the Web.
The solution was to make it so that Vera could
'only fire in an oxygen environment'. This meant
she had to be wrapped in a space suit to work.
This also meant that the only part of Vera you
would see would be the muzzle brake.
